About
Every day, at least two people in Queensland die by suicide. Each life lost to suicide is one too many.
Suicide is complex, but it is preventable.
Suicide Prevention Queensland was created in 2022 through selectability to address the urgent need for more services in regional Queensland.
We aim to address this unmet need by raising funds to improve access to vital services and programs.
While there is no single solution that will prevent suicide, we know that there are many protective factors that can reduce the risk.
Communities play a crucial role in suicide prevention, through engagement with key stakeholders, Suicide Prevention Queensland will work to identify gaps in services and work together to reduce the risk of suicide in the regional areas that need it most.
This includes:
- conducting research and engagement with regional communities to understand unique challenges they face
- improving access to local services by leveraging existing programs and establishing new ones where they are needed
- providing GPs with a reliable referral pathway for patients in crisis
- working with community groups and those with lived experience to deliver specific projects targeted at those in distress.
Our vision
Queensland communities free of suicide.
Our purpose
To raise funds and support regional Queensland communities by developing, enhancing and implementing tailored suicide prevention strategies and services.
Our commitment to community
Suicide rates increases drastically as remoteness increases – urgent action is required.
At Suicide Prevention Queensland, we know that no one knows their community better than locals. Every region is different, and our relationship with communities is important for the unique challenges they face.
Suicide prevention is everybody's business.
That is why at Suicide Prevention Queensland we aim to be community led, with 90 per cent of donations going back into the regions that need it most.
Queensland suicide rates makes up for 24.2 per cent of all deaths by suicide registered across the nation, and while the causes and circumstances of suicide are complex, understanding these complexities is important for prevention.
Suicide prevention is everyone’s business and together we can make a difference to the lives of regional Queenslanders.
