Toolkit

Welcome to the Mental Health Suicide Prevention Toolkit

Research indicates at least 1 in 5 people in Australia will experience mental illness of some kind in the next 12 months.

Understanding of mental illness has changed significantly over the past 30 years – moving from fear, distrust, discrimination, and isolation –
to becoming more ‘mainstream’ (with programs like ‘RUOK’ and websites/organisations such as beyondblue.com, Kids
Helpline and headspace to name just a few). Regardless of this, there remains misunderstanding of the key principles and driving forces
behind anxiety disorders, mood disorders, suicide, non-suicidal selfinjury, eating disorders, substance use disorders, psychosis, and other
mental health challenges.

This short online toolkit provides a brief introduction to mental health conditions and serves to challenge stigmatising beliefs and attitudes.

This valuable resource will help you:

  • identify people experiencing mental health issues in your community
  • equip yourself with knowledge and information about community support services
  • learn tip and strategies for improving your own mental health.
